Impact of affordable housing, due to collapse of Stewart Milne Group:FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

I am looking for some information and a statement with regards to the ongoing impact on planned new build / affordable housing as a result of the collapse of Stewart Milne Group.

The Scottish Government helped to fund 167 affordable homes in Cove in Aberdeen. https://hillcrest.org.uk/13141-2/

Can you tell me.

  • how many of those 167 homes have been completed?
  • how many of those homes are now occupied?
  • how many of those homes are still under construction / construction yet to begin?

Also, can you tell us.

  • How many other similar affordable housing projects the Scottish Government is funding / involved with related to Stewart Milne Developments?
  • The locations of these projects.
  • The number of unfinished / yet to be constructed homes related to these projects?
  • If the Scottish Government is seeking money back from the administrator Teneo from unfinished construction of homes.
  • If so, how much money is the Scottish Government seeking?

And as a final question:

Does the Scottish Government have figures on how many unfinished homes there are related to the collapse of the Stewart Milne Group. We understand there are at least 80 in Aberdeen city and shire, but would be keen to get a Scotland wide figure – both affordable homes and otherwise.

Response

With regard to the project in Cove, Aberdeen, I can confirm the following.

Of the total of 167 homes, 111 have been completed, with 102 now occupied. 56 homes are still under construction. Hillcrest Housing Association is in communication with the administrator regarding completion of this project.

With regard to your second query, there is one further affordable homes development comprising 30 homes at Lempockwells, Pencaitland, East Lothian.

This project is being built for East Lothian council by another developer, but note that the site is adjacent to a wider Stewart Milne private development. All thirty homes have been completed and all are expected to be occupied by week commencing 4 March 2024.

The Scottish Government is not in direct contract with Stewart Milne, and is therefore not seeking money back from the administrator Teneo.

We do not hold the information in respect of your final question and would suggest that you contact Teneo, the appointed administrators, directly.
