International Agreements
What role does the Scottish Government play in international marine protection bodies, for example, OSPAR, IMO and the North Sea Conferences?
The Scotland Act 1998 is clear that representation on international bodies is a reserved matter but the responsibility for aspects of the implementation of any agreements reached by such international bodies is often devolved.
The Scottish Government actively contributes on devolved issues to the UK line for these important international meetings.
If it is considered appropriate in order to fully represent particular Scottish devolved interests the Scottish Government will seek Scottish representation at Ministerial or official level in the UK delegation.
