USIPS is a collaborative project between Marine Scotland Science, the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Southampton Oceanographic Centre (SOC) funded by the National Environment Research Council (NERC) of the United Kingdom under the Autosub thematic programme.

Research Interests: Development of acoustic survey techniques to study abundance and distribution of zooplankton species such as the Antarctic krill; large-scale ecological interactions between krill and its predators; population genetics of Antarctic krill.

Other responsibilities: International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) working groups; Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).

Research Interests: Development of acoustic survey techniques to study abundance and distribution of fish species such as Atlantic herring; application of geostatistical analyses to marine survey data; development of multibeam sonar for fisheries acoustic surveys.

Other responsibilities: Routine acoustic surveys for herring in the North Sea / west of Scotland; lecturing on fisheries acoustics and geostatistics; and International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) working groups.
