Common organisation of the Markets
One part of the Common Fisheries Policy, referred to as the “Common Organisation of the Markets”, seeks to encourage stability in markets for European fish products. This stability is ensured through measures that include:
- The application of common marketing standards
- A price support system coupled with intervention mechanisms
- The participation of Producer Organisations.
Council Regulation (EC) No 104/2000 is the current legislation for the common organisation of the markets in fishery and aquaculture products however, it is currently under review as part of the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. The regulation outlines marketing standards, recognition requirements for producer organisations and prices and intervention.
