Area Management Agreement

The overarching aim of the AMA is to build confidence, develop arrangements for consultation and identify opportunities for collaborative working to the mutual benefit of the health of both farmed and wild salmon.

The long term vision, is a viable salmon farming industry in Loch Torridon, operating alongside restored, sustainable migrations of wild salmon and sea-trout and successful local shellfish enterprises, all contained in a first class natural environment.

Recognising the complexities and uncertainties surrounding many of the issues affecting fish, and shellfish, health, the aim of the Agreement will be to develop proposals based on the best current scientific understanding and to encourage further research where there are important gaps in current knowledge. The precautionary principle will be applied where the scientific evidence is inconclusive and the long-term consequences of a mistake could have serious deleterious consequences.
