Aquaculture Health Working Group (AHJWG) (Archive)

The Aquaculture Health Joint Working Group (AHJWG) is the successor to the Joint Government/Industry Working Group on Infectious Salmon Anaemia (ISA). The AHJWG first met in February 2000 and has wider representation and more regulatory focus than its predecessor. It has the following terms of reference:

  • Consider ways to improve the general health, welfare and management of aquaculture animals including facilitating communication about fish and shellfish issues;
  • Make recommendations, as appropriate, to Ministers and Industry Associations;
  • Make recommendations for research and development, reporting these to SARF (Scottish Aquaculture research Forum) and the Committee for Aquaculture Research and Development. (CARD).

Work in hand:

  • Contingency planning for exotic diseases, eg Gyrodactylus salaris
  • Updating the national sea lice treatment strategy in light of current knowledge of sea lice management and available treatments
  • Emerging new diseases
  • Aquaculture strategy
  • Government/Industry collaboration.
