Atlantic Salmon, brown/sea trout and eels are widespread in Scotland and are likely to benefit from large-scale watercourse management initiatives. The other nine species of fish on the UK BAP Priority list are more restricted in their distributions and have specialised habitat requirements. You are likely to need specialist advice if you wish to help them.

The general requirements for this species group include:

  • Retention and enhancement of riparian and loch habitats
  • Pollution prevention, and avoiding nutrient enrichment
  • Retention of spawning habitat
