Planting of marram grass into areas threatened with erosion

Marram plants must be harvested from areas where marram is well established and there is little danger from erosion. You should plant in the spring to maximise growth and reduce the risk of storm erosion in the first season.

You must transplant the marram grass above the mean high-water mark in off-set rows at 0.2 to 0.9 metre intervals. Any unhealthy or dead plants must be replaced. Sand-blow fencing should be erected before planting. Livestock and rabbits must be excluded from the newly planted area. The work is to be carried out using methods proven successful locally.
