What are option Codes?
An option code is an alphanumerical name given to each of the options in Rural Priorities. Each code corresponds to one option - e.g. Organic Conversion RP21401 - and helps us make the correct payments and identify cases for inspection . That is why we ask for the codes on the claim form.
From 20th January the Contract Schedule of Works will display the Option Code for annual recurrent and capital claims. Contracts issued prior to this will display the Option code for annual recurrent claims only. The Option Code required for Capital claims can be found in the list of Rural Priorities Options, by axis, at the foot of this page.
Using the codes in your claim
Annual Recurrent Options
Annual recurrent options are claimed on the SAF (land data sheets) and the RP1 (summary and totals form). You should enter the code for the option you wish to claim against the land on which you are undertaking it. More information on how to make your claim can be found here.
Standard Cost Capital Items
For Standard cost capital items, you should use the Option code shown on your Contract SOW. Prior to 20 January 2010 your Contract SOW did not display the Option code and for these cases you should use the Option Code shown for the Annual Recurrent Option that the item relates to - e.g. fencing for Wetland Creation should be entered as RP21418, and the option description should be, for example, 'Stock fence'. Standard cost capital items should be claimed on the capital claims form.
The exceptions to the rule are
- Short rotation coppicing
- Woodland creation model; and
- Long term forest planning.
These have initial standard cost payments which are not attached to an Annual Recurrent Option. You should simply claim your standard costs against the correct option code for these three Options.
Actual cost Capital items
Actual cost capital items should be claimed using the Option code shown on your Contract SOW. Prior to 20 January 2010, your Contract SOW did not display the Option code and for these cases you should use the Option Code shown in the list of Rural Priorities Options, by axis, at the foot of this page.
You should use the capital claims form to make your claim.
Special note on the Black Grouse/Capercaillie Option
If you have been approved for the Mammal and Bird Control for Black Grouse and Capercaillie Option, you should be aware that this option requires you to manage the land on an annual basis, but is paid based on the costs incurred in you doing so. You should declare all the land under management for this option on the SAF each year AND submit a separate capital claim once you know your full costs for the year, in both cases using the same Option code.
