What is the Less Favoured Area Support Scheme?
The Less Favoured Area Support Scheme (LFASS) is an area based scheme that seeks to maintain agricultural land, the countryside and farming systems. More information is available on the LFASS web page.
Why do we inspect LFASS businesses?
The Scottish Government must carry out verification inspections on businesses that claim Less Favoured Area Support Scheme payments. Current EU regulations insist that we must carry out inspections on 5% of all claimants.
What do we look for?
We will inspect that all the land you claim for LFASS meets the eligibility criteria of the scheme. As an example, we will also carry out the following checks:
- An assessment of agricultural activity
- Level of agricultural activity
- Signs of under grazing
- Seasonal land eligibility
