Agricultural environment inspections

What are agri-environment inspections? Boundary Ditch

Agri-environment schemes have operated in Scotland since 1987. They are designed to encourage farmers and crofters to manage their land for the benefit of Scotland's wildlife and habitats.

The following schemes will be subject to agri-environment inspections:

  • Countryside Premium Scheme
  • Environmentally Sensitive Areas
  • Organic Aid Scheme
  • Rural Stewardship Scheme

Why do we carry out agri-environment inspections?

Under current EU legislation the Scottish Government must inspect at least 5% of Agri-environment scheme claims. Inspections are usually carried out throughout the year to ensure that participants are adhering to the particular schemes rules. Inspectors will measure and verify any capital items that have been claimed as part of the environmental agreement such as stock fencing.

Where can you find out more?

The Scottish Government inspectors guidance for agri-environment inspections is not currently available. Details on what inspectors will be looking for can be obtained from your local RPID area office.
