Animal health and Welfare Strategy
The Animal Health and Welfare Strategy for Great Britain is a comprehensive ten-year strategy, created by the Scottish Government, Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government in 2004 in consultation with industry, science and welfare groups. The strategy is aimed at developing a partnership approach to managing the impact of animal diseases and improving the welfare of kept animals, promoting the rural and wider economy, and protecting public health.
The strategy does not belong to government, but to all concerned with kept animals. Overseeing implementation of the strategy in Scotland is the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy Advisory group, comprised of the heads of the main industry, science, veterinary and welfare bodies.
