Muirburn
6.1 It should be noted that there is no obligation to make muirburn. The conditions simply state that if the applicant wishes to make muirburn, he should do so in accordance with the approved guide. The Muirburn Code should be followed where this is the method chosen to create blocks of heather at different growth stages. Breaches of the Muirburn Code which could be picked up at a compliance check include: burning within recommended fire-free areas, individual fire patches significantly over 50 metres in width, total area burnt and intensity of burn.
