SCOTS STUDENT STUDYING IN SCOTLAND

What do I have to pay?

Eligible Scottish domiciled students studying full-time in Scotland are not required to pay tuition fees if studying for a first degree or equivalent.

Can I get financial help?

Means-tested loans are available based on household income. The maximum amount available is £5,417 a year if you are living away from home; and £4,457 if you are living at home. If your household income is over £60,600 a year you will receive the minimum of £915. Bursary support up to £2,640 is also available for young people from low income families (an additional loan of up to £785 is also available to this group). If you are eligible for the Independent Students' Bursary, you can get up to £1,000 a year which replaces part of the student loan, again this is dependant upon household income.

Can I get financial help?

Means tested student loans are available based on household income. The maximum available if you study in London is £6,502, and elsewhere £5,417. The Students' Outside Scotland Bursary (SOSB) of up to £2,150 is available to young and mature students from low income families (an additional loan of up to £785 is also available to this group). SOSB replaces part of the student loan.

SCOTS STUDENT STUDYING IN NORTHERN IRELAND

What do I have to pay?

Eligible Scottish domiciled students wishing to study outwith Scotland, at an institution elsewhere in the UK, are entitled to a non income-assessed loan of up to £3,375 a year towards the cost of their tuition fees.

Can I get financial help?

Means tested student loans are available. The maximum available is £5,417 a year. The Students' Outside Scotland Bursary (SOSB) of up to £2,150 is available to young and mature students from low income families (an additional loan of up to £785 is also available to this group). SOSB replaces part of the student loan.

SCOTS STUDENT STUDYING IN EU OUTSIDE BRITAIN

Students are not normally funded who are taking their entire course at a foreign institution. However, if they are taking a course in the UK and have to study on a compulsory basis at an educational institution outside the UK, or choose to take a voluntary period of study abroad as part of an ERASMUS or similar exchange, funding is available.

What do I have to pay?

Same as Northern Ireland Students Studying in Scotland.

Can I get financial help?

An Assembly Learning Grant (ALG)/Special Support Grant up to £5,600 is available. The full amount is payable to those with household incomes of up to £18,370; partial grants are available to those with household incomes of up to £50,020. Maintenance Loans of up to £4,745 are available. If you are enitled to receive ALG grant some of the amount you are entitled to will be paid in place of some of the maintenanceloan you are entitled to. A student can only receive either the ALG/Special Support Grant not both.

NORTHERN IRELAND STUDENT STUDYING IN SCOTLAND

What do I have to pay?

The fee levels for most degree courses are £1,820 per annum. Medical courses are £2,895. You will be able to apply for a loan to cover these costs.

Can I get financial help?

The maximum student loan available is £4,840. Maintenance grants up to a maximum of £3,475 are also available dependant on household income. The full amount of £3,475 is available to those with household incomes up to £19,203 or less and partial grants to those with household incomes up to £41,065. Up to £1,887 of the maintenance grant will be paid in substitution for an element of the student loan, this means that your eligibility for the student loan will be reduced by up to the amount of grant you are paid.

ENGLISH STUDENT STUDYING IN SCOTLAND

What do I have to pay?

Same as Northern Ireland Student Studying in Scotland.

Can I get financial help?

A Maintenance Grant of up to £2,906 is available; the maximum amount is payable to those with household incomes of up to £25,000, partial grants are available to those with a household income of up to £50,020. Maintenance loans of up to £4,950 are also available but are affected by any help you get through the Maintenance Grant.

EU STUDENT STUDYING IN SCOTLAND

What do I have to pay?

Eligible EU students are not required to pay tuition fees whilst studying in Scotland. They are not however eligible to apply for maintenance support.
