Paper 3rd December 2002 - SEIAG-02-15-annex

SEIAG/02/15 - ANNEX A: SCOTXED PROJECT: STACS REVIEW FOCUS GROUP

Summary of Second Meeting

Current Developments

George Wynne has been in discussions with Irene McGill and Tony Conroy regarding the areas of overlap and interface between STACs and the National Priorities (NP) website. The consultation paper presented at the previous meeting was turned into the STACs Review questionnaire and posted onto the STACs website

Ongoing Investigations

The group agreed that a single date should be fixed for all SQA feeds to enable each organisation to deal with the same information. George Wynne confirmed that this point was made at the recent ScotXed Programme Board meeting and Anton Colella was investigating this.

Review Issues

Tony Flisch gave a presentation on Review issues and suggested that it would be impracticable to expect STACs to change fundamentally for the 2003 issues. Rather, it would be more productive for the group to consider slight, necessary change for 2003 and turn its attention to the 2004 issues in terms of more radical changes. This was unanimously accepted within the group as being the best way forward.

Presentation and Delivery of STACs

George Wynne gave a presentation covering the option available in terms of the presentation and delivery of STACs data. This covered the range of tables and charts currently produced, possible useful additions and deletions. More radical options for presentation and data delivery were flagged up within the context of the 2004 issues.

Next Steps

George Wynne to discuss with SQA the possibility of a pupil level data feed in advance of STACs issue. STACs Team to consider ways of simplifying the presentation and interpretation of data and analyses for STACs 2003 issues. George Wynne to arrange for the creation of sub groups to consider the following areas:

  • Specification for analysis of pupil level data feed from SQA.
  • Investigation of UPSS, design, range, inclusion of 5-14.
  • 5-14 Attainment and its place within STACs.
  • RR and Regression.

Volunteers for membership of these sub-groups were requested to contact George Wynne.
