Paper 05/10 - LONG TERM STRATEGY FOR POPULATION SURVEYS IN SCOTLAND: UPDATE
This document is also available in PDF format
This short paper provides an update on the more strategic level of survey development in Scotland.
On 15 August the Chief Statistician held a meeting with the Chief Researcher and the Division Heads responsible for the four major population surveys in Scotland:-
- Scottish Household Survey
- Scottish Health Survey
- Scottish Crime Survey
- the new Scottish Cultural Participation Survey.
At that meeting agreement in principle was reached that the development of each of these surveys would be carried out with a view to compatibility with a Scottish Continuous Population Survey.
Although the contracts and timetables for development differ across these surveys, what this means in practice is that future development should move them (in the fullness of time) towards a the same sampling methodology, a modular structure and the same set of core questions - once these are agreed.
More detail on how this is to be taken forward is covered in subsequent agenda items.
