More Choices, More Chances (NEET)
Over the past year the number of 16-19 year olds Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) has remained relatively stable at 36,000 (unchanged on 2009). Between 2008 and 2009, the size of the NEET group increased significantly, by 5,000 (1.9 percentage points). Between 2005 and 2008 there was a significant reduction in the size of the NEET group, down 6,000 (2.4 percentage points). Males generally have a higher proportion of 16 to 19 year olds NEET compared to females. This is again reflected in the 2010 data. The gap had decreased during 2007 and 2008, but increased sharply in 2009 before decreasing slightly in 2010.
