Carers
Information on Carers is available from a number of sources. Presented here is the latest data available on Respite Care provision by Local Authorities and data collected on unpaid carers in Scotland.
Respite Care
Respite Care is a service intended to benefit a carer and the person he or she cares for by providing a short break from caring tasks.
The 2006/07 to 2008/09 figures available within this dataset were originally collected and published by each Local Authority in Scotland. Local Authorities were required to collect and publish information on respite nights in a Care Home and respite hours provided at home as part of their Statutory Performance Indicators (SPIs) for Audit Scotland. The 2009/10 & 2010/11 figures were submitted directly to the Scottish Government.
Audit Scotland publishes information about the comparative performance of councils across Scotland in a compendium of all the data. Respite data is available on the Audit Scotland web site from 2001/02 to 2008/09. Please note that the 2007/08 & 2008/09 figures have been superseded with those available here.( http://www.audit-scotland.gov.uk/performance/index.php).
Unpaid Carers in Scotland
The 2001 Census provides key information on Scotland's unpaid carers, which can be used to benchmark the prevalence and profile of Scotland's unpaid carers and the Scottish Household Survey (SHS) and Scottish Health Survey (SHeS) provide up to date information on the characteristics and experiences of Scotland's unpaid carers.
