CATTLE
At June 2011 there were 1.80 million cattle on about 12,580 agricultural holdings in Scotland.
The value of cattle output including dairy products was £796.4 million in 2010, around one-third of the total Scottish agricultural output.

The total number of cattle decreased by 21,150 (1.2 per cent) to 1.80 million in 2011. The number of dairy cattle decreased by 2,100 (0.8 per cent) to 269,200 with the number of dairy cows falling by 1.2 per cent to 182,200. The number of beef cattle fell by 14,900 (1.5 percent ) to 986,500 with the number of beef cows rising by 0.5 per cent to 459,300. The number of calves decreased by 0.7 per cent to 527,800 and the number of bulls fell by 1 per cent to 22,400.
In 2010 the value of finished cattle and calves increased by 6% to £491.8 million and the value of milk and other dairy products amounted to £272 million. Capital formation (i.e. the asset value) of replacement cattle was £34.6 million.
