
Commentary
Quarterly data shows that around two thirds of those who travel to work usually go by car or van. While the percentage travelling to work by car or van is relatively unchanged from 1999, there has been an increase in those driving, rather than being a passenger. Other main methods of travel to work are walking (around 14 per cent) and taking the bus (around 11 per cent).
The apparent quarter-to-quarter fluctuations in the figures may well be the result of sampling variability. Quarter-to-quarter changes should therefore be interpreted with caution.
