The majority (over £44 million) of the CSO budget is spent on supporting research in the NHS. This funding is allocated through a number of streams including NHS Support for Science, Topic Specific Research Networks, Infrastructure funding, Scottish Academic Health Sciences Collaboration (SAHSC).
