Communique - Meeting - August 27, 2008
The Working Group on Scotland without Nuclear Weapons met for the second time on August 27, 2008.
Commenting on behalf of the Group, the Minister for Parliamentary Business said:
"This was a very interesting and constructive second meeting. Today we heard presentations on international legal opinions about nuclear weapons, and peace and reconciliation, considering the potential role for Scotland. Additionally we heard updates on work taken forward on the areas discussed at our last meeting, an I am particularly pleased to note the progress that has been made in writing out to seek views of interested parties on the adequacy of the current regulatory framework: these will be critical in ensuring that we understand the action that needs to be taken to develop the best possible public safety regime. Much work remains to be done, but I am delighted with the progress that the Group has made to date".
