What do I have to do when the PVG Scheme goes live?
Nothing. If you are in post, whether or not you have ever had an enhanced disclosure, you do not need to do anything until asked to by your employer. If you are joining the regulated workforce for the first time or moving posts within the regulated workforce, then your new employer will ask you to join the PVG Scheme rather than apply for an enhanced disclosure as at present.

When should I join the PVG Scheme?
You should be asked to join the PVG Scheme if and when you take up a new position involving regulated work with children and / or protected adults with your current or future employers, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity.
You may be asked to join the PVG Scheme at some point by your existing employer either if they have a practice of re-checking employees or volunteers from time to time or as part of the process of phasing in the existing workforce which will begin one year after the PVG Scheme goes live.
If you are self-employed, or expect to become self-employed, in a capacity which involves regulated work, you may wish to join the PVG Scheme in order to demonstrate to clients that you are not unsuitable to do regulated work.

What form do I have to complete for a PVG Scheme membership application?
If you work or intend to work with vulnerable groups and your employer asks you for a disclosure after the PVG Scheme goes live, you will need to use a new PVG Scheme application form. This form will look similar to the enhanced disclosure application form.
There is a sample of the application form on the Disclosure Scotland website.

Can I get an enhanced disclosure instead of joining the PVG Scheme?
No. Enhanced disclosure will not be available to people who are working with vulnerable groups because the PVG Scheme Record is available instead. Enhanced disclosures will continue to be available for some other purposes, but not for regulated work.
