The Scottish Government have received notification from CARA the Central Authority for Adoptions in India have issued a statement on 1 July 2011, stating that they have temporary suspended receiving inter-country adoption applications from foreign central authorities until 30 September 2011 or until further notice. This will allow the Indian placement agencies to process and clear the existing foreign applications they currently have.

24 February 2010 - Nepal
The Hague Bureau has published the report of its technical assistance to Nepal in November 2009 which looked at the intercountry adoption processes in Nepal. It recommends to the Nepalese Government a temporary suspension of adoptions whilst the necessary reform of the intercountry adoption process is undertaken.
We are given consideration to what steps should be taken in relation to applications to adopt from Nepal in light of that report. We will not process applications to adopt from Nepal whilst we consider the implications of the report.
