OLDER PEOPLE'S CONSULTATIVE FORUM
UPDATE ON ISSUES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2008
The Older People's Consultative Forum last met on 29 September, and much has happened since then. This note gives an update, by date order.
1 October - UK Day for Older People: some events in Scotland including Edinburgh and South Lanarkshire.
10 October - Scottish Fuel Poverty Forum final report published.
13 November - UK ageing research conference in Glasgow, run jointly by the Older People and Age Team and the General Register Office for Scotland.
14 November - the first older people stakeholder event held in Glasgow.
19 November - the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing announced that the Scottish Government would act on the Scottish Fuel Poverty Forum's key recommendations.
24 November - the Poverty Framework Achieving Our Potential: A Framework to Tackle Poverty and Income Inequality in Scotland launched. The Framework sets out the approach of the Scottish Government and COSLA to reducing poverty and income inequality in Scotland.
3 December - the second older people stakeholder event held in Inverness.
8 December - the Scottish Ministers presented the All Our Futures: Planning for a Scotland with an Ageing Population Progress Report to the Scottish Parliament (circulated to members that day).

23 March - older people stakeholder event, Perth
30 March-10 April - second phase of See the person, not the age anti-ageism campaign
5 May - older people stakeholder event, Aberdeen
20 May - older people stakeholder event, Dumfries
3 June - older people stakeholder event, Edinburgh.
2 October - Older People's Gathering/Parliament
ANNEX
STAKEHOLDER EVENTS - DETAILED INFORMATION
The first event, organised by the West of Scotland Seniors Forum and the Scottish Pensioners Forum, was held on 14 November in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall with around 250 people attending. It was a mixture of presentations and round table discussions on the following subjects -
· All our Futures - John Storey, Older People and Age Team, Scottish Government
· Lifetime Neighbourhoods (Renfrew's experience) - Cllr Derek Mackay, Leader of Renfrewshire Council
· Transport Scotland - Gordon Hanning, Head of Concessionary Travel and Integrated Ticketing Unit, Scottish Government
· Health & Wellbeing - Silver Deal - A programme which aims to get older adults more active more often.
A number of organisations had stalls providing information and advice to attendees. Entertainment was provided by a dance troupe at lunchtime.
The second, organised by Age Concern Scotland in Inverness, was held in the Thistle Hotel, Inverness on 3 December with around 70 people attending. A mixture of presentations, workshops and discussions were held throughout the day as follows -

21 March Borders - Galashiels Academy - approximately 100 attendees - organised by Scottish Borders Elder Voice.
The programme for the day will be a mixture of presentations and group discussion and will include the following-

- Brian McKechnie, Director, Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice, University of Strathclyde.
- Robert Rae, Director, Scotland's Futures Forum, Scottish Parliament.
There will also be a number of stalls providing information and advice to attendees.
23 March Perth - Perth Concert Hall - approx 100 attendees - organised by Age Concern Scotland.
The programme for the day will include a presentation on All Our Futures by John Storey, Older People and Age Team, Scottish Government as well as workshops on the following subjects -
- Life at Home
- Forging Links between Generations
- Healthy and Active Ageing
- Improving Care and Support for Carers
There will also be a number of stalls providing information and advice to attendees.
5 May - Aberdeen - Carmelite Hotel - approx 100 attendees - organised by Age Concern Scotland - programme to be confirmed.
20 May - Dumfries and Galloway - Easterbrook Hall - approximately 100 attendees - organised by Age Concern Scotland - programme to be confirmed.
3 June - Edinburgh - Corn Exchange - approx 150 attendees - organised by City of Edinburgh Council - programme to be confirmed.
