THE SCOTTISH COMPACT

The Scottish Compact aims to encourage a closer working relationship between the Government and the voluntary and volunteering sectors, ensuring that the skills and experience of both are shared for the benefit of those they represent.

The revised Scottish Compact and its associated Implementation Strategy were launched at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisation's (SCVO) annual conference on 23 February 2004.

The Compact Implementation Strategy set out specific actions which were intended to encourage and build on the everyday relationships between the Scottish Executive and the voluntary sector.

The Compact and the Implementation Strategy are also supported by Good Practice Guidance covering funding, partnership working, consultation, and policy proofing.

LOCAL COMPACTS

Reid-Howie Associates were commissioned in March 2005 to carry out a review of the operation of Local Compacts in Scotland, identify lessons from similar agreements in England and write Guidance on how local councils and voluntary organisations can take forward Compacts in their areas. The research was managed by the Scottish Executive Social Research Group and the Advisory Group included members from SCVO, Edinburgh Council and Community Planning interests in the Executive.

The Edinburgh Compact

The Edinburgh Compact was officially launched on 10 December 2004 at the City Chambers. It is a partnership agreement between Edinburgh's public agencies and the voluntary and community sector.
