These pages contain a list of Scottish and English Fire & Rescue Service Circulars and Dear Chief Officer (Scotland) Letters issued from 2008. They can be accessed by clicking on the relevant link at the left hand side of this page.
In Scotland, technical and operational guidance is issued within:
- Scottish Fire & Rescue Service Circulars; or
- Dear Chief Officer (Scotland) (formerly 'Dear Firemaster') letters.
These are issued either by:
- the Scottish Resilience Strategy Unit;
- the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA); or
- the Scottish Fire and Rescue Advisory Unit (SFRAU).
Some of the guidance is exclusively relevant to Scotland and is generated by the issuer, the remainder are transposed in whole, or in part from Communities and Local Government (CLG) bulletins which have been issued as guidance for English Fire and Rescue Services.
An initial decision on whether information in the CLG bulletins should be issued in Scotland, is made jointly by SFRAU and the Scottish Resilience Strategy Unit. These decisions are notified to the Scottish Operational Guidance Programme Board members for their views before a final decision is made. However, there are circumstances where a Scottish Fire Service Circular is issued and reported to the Scottish Operational Guidance Programme Board after issuing due to the urgent nature of the information.
