Retained Duty Scheme

A large percentage of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SRFS) workforce are Retained Duty System (RDS) staff. They provide fire cover for at least 90 per cent of the land mass of Scotland. The operation of the RDS requires individual commitment plus support from primary employers.

An Advisor within SFRAU is working to encourage FRSs to address a number of recommendations supported by the Chief Fire Officers' Association (Scotland) (CFOA(S)) to further develop the needs of this highly valuable duty system.

The Advisor has been working closely with SFRS appointed Liaison Officers to encourage the sharing of best practice and record progress.

Delivering the individual needs of this duty system is challenging and will require some specific focus for a period of time. This appointment demonstrates the Scottish Government's commitment to the project.
