Secondment within the Scottish Fire and Rescue Advisory Unit (SFRAU)
An inward secondment involves an employee from a non-Civil Service organisation coming into the Scottish Government for a temporary period. Secondments have benefits for the Secondee, the donor organisation and the Scottish Government. Two of these are:
-
The sharing of people and good practice - Enabling the Scottish Government to offer to other organisations the broadening of experience, personal development and skills enhancement we seek for our own staff.
-
Partnership working with stakeholders - Foster mutual understanding and co-operation and promote links between the Scottiish Government and particular sectors or organisations through effective partnership working.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Advisory Unit carry out a variety of specific reviews and projects. In order for SFRAU to have the most up to date knowledge and experience from the Fire and Rescue Service, it uses seconded staff from Fire and Rescue Services to undertake such tasks. These secondments can range from six months to two years and can cover a wide range of issues.
Secondment agreements are formed between the Scottish Government (Scottish Fire and Rescue Advisory Unit) and the Fire and Rescue Service from where an individual, who is interested in secondment is employed and not the individual themselves. Individuals who are retired or self-employed are not eligible for secondment within the Scottish Government. A secondee remains an employee of their employer (donor/exporting organisation) and the secondment should not affect the employee's employment status.
