In December 2010 the UK Government announced it was closing down the FiReControl project. This had attempted to replace the existing 46 fire control rooms operating in England with 9 regional control rooms.
Mr Fergus Ewing, then Minister for Community Safety asked Stephen Hunter, Chief Officer of Tayside Fire and Rescue to chair a stakeholder Working Group to review the development and implementation of the FiReControl project, and highlight any lessons which need to be learnt from the process.
The attached report outlines the recommendations of the Working Group on the lessons learned from the FiReControl project in England. The Reform Programme Board will ensure these lessons are applied, not just in the reform of Control Rooms, but in the wider reform of the fire and rescue services where they may be equally relevant.
Further information on FiReControl can be found on the website of The Department for Communities and Local Government.
