Our Work

In order to fulfil our purpose of monitoring and improving the police service in Scotland we carry out a range of activities on behalf of the Scottish public, either as a single organisation or in partnership with others. The main ways in which we do this are by:

Carrying out thematic inspections

Conducting Best Value inspections

Supporting self-evaluation in forces

Our findings, which are published as reports on this website, are used to inform the Cabinet Secretary for Justice on the state and efficiency of policing in Scotland. They also help us to fulfil another of our core functions, which is to:

Advise ministers on policing matters.
