The Scottish Government

The Scottish Government shares the widespread concern about the booze and blade culture that has taken root in some parts of Scotland and is determined to do all it can to tackle violent crime and improve safety in communities.

Amongst the wider issues of violence, the Scottish Government takes the problem of knife crime very seriously. It is unacceptable for law abiding people in communities to be subject to such aggressive, mindless violent behaviour. The Scottish Government, the police and other partners are working together to tackle this problem head-on.

The Scottish Government is taking forward a two strand approach with knife crime:

• taking coordinated and sustained action to tackle the existing problems with tough and effective enforcement measures
• whilst also driving more long term work to educate young people and prevent them becoming involved with knives in the first place
