Information Sharing and Information Exchange System Interface Documentation Project
In late 2009 and early 2010, the Scottish Government carried out analysis into information exchanges between criminal justice organisations in Scotland. The study considered all exchanges of information between one organisation (or system) and another in any format.
During the course of the study, over 70 individual organisations were identified and over 260 clearly identifiable interfaces (electronic or manual data transfer activities) between the different criminal justice organisations. One of the key findings from the report was that, of these 260 interfaces, 40% are exclusively hard copy based data transfers while 25% are exclusively electronic data transfers.
Summary of Information Exchanges by Organisation
The final report of the Information Sharing and Information Exchange System Interface Documentation Project contains a set of diagrams showing the interfaces (data transfers both electronic and non electronic) between the different systems and organisations involved in the Scottish criminal justice service. These diagrams have one core organisation at the heart of them and show the interfaces between that core organisation and other organisations. The interfaces are shown as arrows which indicate the direction in which data passes.
To make it easier for readers to identify the interfaces which take place, these diagrams have been separated out from the main report. A summary interface list for each organisation is also included alongside each diagram for ease of reference.
- The diagrams for each individual organisation can be accessed separately on the following page.
- A summary document has been produced which gathers together all of the diagrams from the main report. By clicking on the organisation name in the list at the front of the document, readers can go directly to the appropriate organisation diagram.
Further work
Further work to improve information flows is being taken forward and will be posted here in due course.
