Curriculum for Excellence, the national curriculum for Scottish schools, aims to provide the right environment to enable young people to develop as informed and responsible citizens. Anti-sectarianism is at the heart of this ethos and these issues arise as part of Religious and Moral Education, Citizenship Education or Social Studies.
Education can play a pivotal role in challenging sectarian attitudes and religious intolerance. As part of the work being taken forward, we work with partners to support use of sectarianism as a context for learning which inspires and engages young people.
This work includes promoting opportunities for twinning between denominational and non-denominational schools; supporting and funding anti-sectarian projects in schools, colleges and universities; and developing anti-sectarian materials and web-based resources.
