Trafficking in Human Beings: Protection and support to adult victims

If you are a victim of trafficking or suspect someone may be trafficked you can:

  • Contact the police by dialling 999 for an immediate response; or
  • Contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you have information that will help lead to the identification and recovery of trafficking victims in the UK.

The Scottish Government provides funding to TARA (the Trafficking Awareness Raising Alliance) to provide support and accommodation for female adult victims who have been trafficked for sexual exploitation.  In addition funding is also provided to Migrant Help to provide support and accommodation for all other adult victims of trafficking e.g. for domestic servitude or forced labour.

Both these support agencies are authorised to refer potential victims of trafficking to one of the UK’s two competent authorities for identification through the National Referral Mechanism, a framework for identifying victims of human trafficking and ensuring they receive the appropriate protection and support.  The competent authorities are United Kingdom Human Trafficking Centre and United Kingdom Border Agency.
