Support for Haiti Earthquake Victims
On Friday 15th January, the Minister for Culture and External Affairs, Ms Hyslop, held a meeting with the main Scottish aid agencies to discuss the earthquake in Haiti. Following this, the Scottish Government identified £250,000 to assist Scottish-based organisations with their humanitarian aid efforts in Haiti. However, due to the gravity of the situation and the high quality of applications received which will have a real impact on the ground, £687,357 was awarded from our International Development Fund.
For further information please see the news release published on 9 February 2010.
The following eligibility criteria was used:
Criteria for Applications
- Organisations must have a presence in Scotland.
- Organisations must have experience of working on the ground in Haiti, prior to the earthquake, either themselves or through partner organisations. (Alternatively, you may wish to consider partnering with another organisation with more experience in this region.)
- Organisations must have experience of responding to humanitarian crisis.
- The application must be for short term and one-off humanitarian relief, not longer term reconstruction efforts.
Funding
- We suggest a maximum application limit of £75,000 per organisation.
- Funds should be allocated and spent on immediate humanitarian priorities, with final reports submitted six months from the date that successful organisations sign and accept the conditions in their grant offer letter.
