What the definition can cover
A service which provides care for adults either in the home or elsewhere.
The service can be provided by:
- a Local Authority (LA)
- anyone under arrangements made by a LA
- anyone under arrangements made by a health body
- anyone if it includes personal care and support
It does not include an individual personally and soley giving care to an individual.
Examples
- Care in a Centre: day centres for people with learning disabilities provided by or for (under arrangements) a Local Authority; lunch clubs for older
- Care at home: helping a person get up, bathe and dress; cooking a hot meal for someone who is unable to do it for themselves
Commencement status
- Daycare for adults: Commenced 1 April 2002.
- Care at home: Commenced 22 December 2003.
