The national uniform applies to all staff who currently wear a uniform, and includes uniform sets for both clinical and non-clinical staff.
It is manufactured in an innovative fabric specially formulated for NHSScotland. It is cool enough for the hospital environment and warm enough for continual outdoor use. In terms of comfort, it will stretch to allow bending and freedom of movement. It has a better style and fit and is appropriate for manual handling needs.
Maternity wear will be available and specialist garments will be manufactured to meet religious, ethnic or medical needs.
The key elements of the national uniform are a single style tunic or polo-shirt which is manufactured to a much improved standard in terms of quality and comfort. It will be supplied in a range of blues for clinical staff and a duo of greens for non-clinical staff. The darker green will only be for domestic and catering supervisors.
Polo shirts will be available as an alternative to tunics depending on local policy. However, if you currently wear a tunic it is anticipated that you will continue to do so.

- Support staff for Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Scientists, and Pharmacy Technicians can have their department embroidered on their tunic/polo shirt or have the option to wear a non-embroidered tunic/polo shirt. This depends on local policy.
