Overarching Implementation Steering Group (OISG)

The SG Overarching Implementation Steering Group agreed the remits of two Implementation Groups - the Cross-Professional Fitness to Practise Group (CPFtP) and the Extending Professional Regulation Group (EPR). The EPR group has now been disbanded following completion of its work, which fed into the work of the Department of Health (DH) Extending Professional Regulation Working Group. The final report of the DH Group was published on 16 July 2009.

The OISG Steering Group is jointly chaired by Ros Moore, Chief Nursing Officer, and Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland.

The Overarching Implementation Steering Group (OISG) met for the seventh time on 17 November 2009. The Group received updates on progress on implementation in Scotland of the UK White Paper Trust, Assurance and Safety.

A progress report was also received from the Cross Professional Fitness to Practise Implementation Group. The OISG considered current progress on medical revalidation in Scotland and also received an update regarding non medical revalidation from the private sector perspective. It discussed future regulation of the independent sector, including those offering cosmetic treatments. The next steps for the implementation of the mandatory standards and codes for healthcare support workers were considered, as well as plans for future regulation of priority groups identified in the UK White Paper.

The last meeting, which was due to be held on Monday 1 November 2010, was cancelled. The meetings that are scheduled to take place in 2011 are on Wednesday 30 March and Wednesday 7 September 2011.
