Regulators Liaison Group
The Regulators Liaison Group was set up by the Scottish Government Health Directorates (SGHD), initially to build on the partnership approaches to regulation and to explore further the interface between the different levels of responsibility for regulation from national regulator, through employer (where an employer exists) to individual regulation. This complemented what had been highlighted in the reports on the reviews of regulation by Andrew Foster [Review of the non-medical Healthcare Professions - www.dh.gov.uk. ], Director for Workforce at Department of Health, and Sir Liam Donaldson [Good Doctors, Safer Patients - www.dh.gov.uk], Chief Medical Officer for England.
Following the publication of the White Paper Trust, Assurance and Safety, in February 2007, the group evolved further. Chaired by Ros Moore, Chief Nursing Officer, who is in the lead on professional regulation, it is now exchanging strategic information relating to regulatory and associated policies in Scotland between SGHD, the professional regulatory bodies and CHRE. It meets twice a year, with one of these meetings taking the form of a Regulatory event organised by SGHD. The next meeting will be held at the end of March 2011, and the next Regulatory Event will be held on 26 and 27 October 2010.
The membership of the Regulators' Liaison Group includes representation from the UK Professional Regulatory Bodies, the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence - www.chre.org.uk, NHS Quality Improvement Scotland - www. nhshealthquality.org.uk - , NHS Education for Scotland - www.nes.scot.nhs.uk, the Care Commission - www.carecommission.com, the Scottish Social Services Council www.sssc.uk.com and employers in the independent sector both acute www.independenthealthcare.org.uk, and Care Homes sector, www.scottishcare.org.
