Cross - Professional Fitness to Practise (CPFtP)
This Group, which is jointly chaired by Dr Aileen Keel, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Audrey Cowie, Professional Adviser for Regulation and Workforce Standards, is taking forward a number of objectives relating to regulatory policy for the healthcare professions.
The Group's eighth meeting took place on 10 March 2010, when progress in Scotland on implementation of medical revalidation was discussed as a substantial item, including pilot projects and the development of a new final appraisal form. The recent issue of a GMC consultation on medical revalidation was highlighted, as were the three SGHD revalidation roadshows which are taking place in March. Both the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Health Professions Council gave updates on their work on revalidation. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain updated the Group on the imminent transfer of it's responsibilities to the new General Pharmaceutical Society.
The Scottish Government website area on the White Paper was highlighted, as were the arrangements for the third Annual Regulation Event to take place on 26 and 27 October. There was also an update on the Public Service Reform Bill and proposed changes to the definition of "independent healthcare services" to be consulted on.
The frequency of future meetings of the Group was also discussed, and they are to continue six-monthly, but members were content to sign off electronically between meetings if required.
The last meeting of the CPFtP group which was due to be held on Monday 6 September 2010, was cancelled. However, the next meeting will be held on Wednesday 2 March 2011.
