Global Community of Practice for Rehabilitation

Global Community of Practice for Rehabilitation

The introduction of a new Global Community of Practice for Rehabilitation (GCoPR) on June 1, 2009 heralds a new and exciting opportunity for Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) and health and social care professionals to work collaboratively, sharing learning and engaging with multiprofessional colleagues across the international community.

This initiative has been led by the Chief Health Professions Officer (CHPO) Scotland as a partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and on behalf of the United Kingdom and International CHPO groups. The GCoPR will also link with the establishment of a Global Network for Health Professionals due to be launched later in 2009.

The Global Community of Practice for Rehabilitation aims to:

  • Release the potential of health professions to impact on global health.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer by sharing learning and best practice to support policy and practice development.
  • Build capacity and capability of the health professions workforce and support staff.
  • Enable/facilitate synergies and collaboration to enhance the inter-professional contribution to the global health agenda.

This is an exciting opportunity for AHPs to contribute to international knowledge exchange, translation and practice development as well as support their colleagues to release their full potential for the benefit of clients and carers worldwide.

In the first week of the launch almost 500 people from 19 countries participated in a discussion on Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR). Health and rehabilitation professionals from all related healthcare disciplines are invited to register and participate.
