Children and Young Persons Acute Deterioration Management (CYPADM)
The NHSScotland Resuscitation Planning Policy for Children and Young People (under 16) has been developed as part of the Scottish Government Living and Dying Well: a national action plan for palliative and end of life care in Scotland. The policy and supporting resources reflects the current evidence base and UK best practice guidance. It provides guidance to clinicians, reassurance to families and safe working practices within all care settings. Any decisision not to resuscitate must not compromise the ongoing needs of the child/young person for symptom control or palliative care.
It is anticipated that the policy and supporting resources will mainly be used within NHS children's services. NHS Boards in Scotland should ensure that all staff in children's services and paediatricians are fully aware of the policy, guidance note and Children/Young Person Acute Deterioration Management (CYPADM) Form. The purpose of the policy and supporting resources is to provide guidance and clarification regarding the process of making and communicating resuscitation planning and decisions.
