BACKGROUND

The Diversity Task Force (DTF) was established on 16th April 2004 to provide strategic leadership to NHS Scotland Managers and act as an enabler to facilitate culture change at every level. Its membership is wide ranging, including NHS personnel, representatives of the Strand Specific Initiatives (SSIs), trades unions, professional bodies, officials from the Scottish Executive and external organisations from both the public and private sector.
Significant progress has been made against the DTF work plan resulting in the opportunity to re-visit the groups remit, structure and membership.
The role of the DTF will be to assist policy makers' position equality and diversity at the heart of decision making and to use diversity management as a key lever for change and successful policy implementation. This will impact positively on the delivery of health policy, reducing inequalities and support the staff governance standard.
The DTF will;
- inform policy development by providing adivce to policy leads with Scottish Executive Health Department
- review progress of the delivery of NHS Scotland's statutory and policy responsibilities for equality
- report on progress to the Chief Executive of NHS Scotland, and as appropriate, to the Scottish Partnership Forum and Scottish Workforce and Staff Governance Committee.
The work of the Diversity Task Force is now being taken forward by the Mutuality, Equality and Human Rights Board. To find out more about the Board, please click on this link : http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Health/NHS-Scotland/MEHRB
