Specific Grants

Specific Grants allocation and distribution are set centrally, linked to the specific policy initiatives and expectations, and are also know as 'ring fenced' funding.

Specific grants account for around 7.5% of total revenue funding, with 75% of the total being for local authority expenditure on police. Spending Review 2007 reduced the amount of ring-fenced grants and under the concordat the presumption is against the establishment of new ring-fenced grants. This provides each local authority with more freedom and flexibility to allocate their resources to meet the local needs and priorities of their area.

Listed below are the current revenue specific grants. Full details of the amounts local authorities each get for these specific grants can be found the finance circulars.

· Determined to Succeed;
· Fairer Scotland Fund (has been rolled-up into the general revenue funding for 2010-11 using the same total and distribution as notified to Community Planning Partnerships in December 2007);
· Gaelic;
· Housing Support Grant;
· Hostels Grant;
· Police; and
· Supported Employment.
