Dear Sir/Madam

THE NON-DOMESTIC RATING (RURAL AREAS AND RATEABLE VALUE LIMITS) (SCOTLAND) AMENDMENT ORDER 2005

I am writing to you about legislation for Designated Rural Areas. The attached draft amendment Order will update column 2 of schedule 1 to the current Order to take account of population changes to settlements in designated rural areas where it has either decreased below or increased above 3,000.

An undertaking was given to amend the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Areas and Rateable Value Limits) (Scotland) Order 2005 when revised data became available. The General Register Office for Scotland has now published mid-year 2003 population estimates. These can be found at: http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/statistics/library/poptest/mid-2003-population-estimates-for-settlements.html and http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/statistics/library/poptest/mid-2003-population-estimates-for-localities.html.

I would be grateful if you could let me have any comments on the attached draft Order no later than close of business on Friday, 7 October. Copies of the draft Order have also been sent to those listed in the attached annex. In the meantime if you should have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me on 0131 244 7025.

Yours sincerely

Ian Duncan
