UPRATING OF COUNCILLORS' BASIC AND ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCES AND FINANCIAL LOSS ALLOWANCES FOR NON-COUNCILLORS
Scottish Ministers have, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 45(4), 47 and 235(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 and sections 18 and 190(1) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, made Regulations amending the maximum amounts payable under local authority schemes in basic and attendance allowances for councillors and financial loss allowances for non-councillors. These increases take effect from 3 May 2004 and a copy of the Local Authorities etc (Allowances) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2002 can be found at http://www.scotland-legislation.hmso.gov.uk/legislation/scotland/ssi2004/20040146.htm. There are no plans to increase the current rates for travel and subsistence allowances.
Rates have been increased in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) and a table showing a summary of the increased rates is attached at Annex A.
