We have a central team of professional purchasers, further supported by procurement professionals working in organisations across central government. Together, we are pioneering best practice and changes in the way that central government procures good and services.
There are approximately 70 organisations in the Scottish public sector that belong to the "Central Government" family. These organisations are all eligible to access Central Government contracts that are put in place byScottish Procurement.
The organisations are grouped in the following six categories:
Scottish Government Core Departments
Comprising over fifty directorates and reporting to Ministers, the Scottish Government is the civil service body that is responsible for ensuring progress is made on the five core strategic objectives of a Wealthier and Fairer, Healthier, Safer and Stronger, Smarter and Greener Scotland
Agencies
Bodies established to carry out executive functions of government, but left as free as possible to manage within a policy and resources framework set by a department
Advisory Non Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs)
Independent boards who advise Ministers on particular policy areas
Non Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs)
Non-integral part of a government department who carry out their work independently from Ministers but are financed by that department
Public Corporations
Industrial or commercial enterprises under direct Government control
Have a board whose members are appointed by Ministers, and which meets at least quarterly
Employ their own staff, who are not civil servants
Manage their own budgets
Tribunals
These are independent bodies which have jurisdiction in an area of the law and co-ordinated by the Tribunals Service.
