Scottish Futures Trust
The Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) was established in 2008 to help ensure better value for taxpayers money in the delivery of vital public infrastructure projects.
SFT will aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure investment in Scotland by working collaboratively with public bodies and industry, leading to better value for money and ultimately public services. SFT will act across all phases of the infrastructure investment cycle, from initial option investigation to asset disposal and will deliver benefits to public sector through providing a number of roles:
- Deliverer of projects, through managing and leading
- Broker, enabling public authorities to collaborate on projects to deliver greater savings, such as with hub
- Advisor and organiser of funding and financing
- Validator of projects, by carrying out scrutiny and diligence
- Centre of expertise on infrastructure investment
SFT is a limited company with all of the shares in the company being owned by Scottish Ministers. SFT's activities are overseen by a five member board appointed by Scottish Ministers - a chair, currently Sir Angus Grossart and four Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).
SFT is playing an active part in supporting infrastructure investment in Scotland and its Business Plan for 2011-12 published in March 2011 sets out key work to be undertaken by SFT over the next year as it pursues a £9 billion portfolio of projects. SFT also published its first Corporate Plan for the period 2009-2014 in November 2009 and this sets out SFT's approach to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure investment in Scotland with the objective of improving value for money.
