£3 MILLION FOR ADDITIONAL 3,150 TRAINING PLACES FOR THE UNEMPLOYED
Almost £3 million of European Social Funds will support an additional 3,150 Training for Work places.
The right skills training linked to the labour market for those who are unemployed is more essential than ever. Training for Work offers training that is flexible, and suited to the needs of individuals and employers.
TRAINING FOR WORK
Changes have been made to Training for Work eligibility rules to allow access to training at the 3-month stage of unemployment which means that more individuals than ever before will be able to benefit from Government support in training to find employment.
FUNDING TO COLLEGES TO SUPPORT PEOPLE AFFECTED BY UNEMPLOYMENT
Scotland's colleges received an additional funding of £8.4 million in 2010-11 to help address the increased demand caused by the economic downturn, particularly from school leavers. This money was used to match fund a European Social Fund application and an additional £6.9m ESF has been awarded to the Scottish Funding Council. This will provide funding for approximately 4,100 additional FTE college places during 2010/2011.
TARGETED PATHWAYS TO APPRENTICESHIPS
Funding was made available from 2009 to 2011 for young school leavers to learn skills in engineering, motor vehicle, warehousing/retail, IT and administration. There were two aspects to this project-
(1) supporting VQ Level 2 - we would expect most of these young people will move directly into a Modern Apprenticeship Level 3 by summer 2010 and this is delivered through group training associations for engineering only; and
(2) vocational training to assist young people into further training or employment who did not have the experience to undertake a Level 2 qualification.
